I want to thank all the county faculty and staff for the informative and enjoyable visits to each county over the past three months. We have good people, good programs, and significant impact.

Thanks for the great job provided by our faculty and staff in putting on the 13th Annual Desert Horticulture Conference held last Friday.

The following Cooperative Extension faculty received funding from TRIF for new projects in 2004-2005:  Enhancing Water Supply Reliability through Improved Predictive Capacity and Response - $73,750 (Kathy Jacobs, Dept. of Soil, Water and Environmental Science; Dr. Bonnie Colby, Dept. of Agricultural and Resource Economics; Dr. David Meko, Laboratory of Tree-Ring Research; Dr. Bart Nijssen, Hydrology and Water Resources/Civil Engineering and Engineering Mechanics; Effects of Water Quality on "Rapid Blight" Disease of Turf grass - $43,065 (Dr. Mary Olsen, Dr. David Kopec, Dr. Mohammad Pessarakli, Ms. Donna Bigelow, Mr. Jeffrey Gilbert, Dept. of Plant Sciences; Spanish-Language Landscape Water Conservation Program for the Green Industry - $8,777 (Vicki S. Richards, Pima County Cooperative
Extension/Low 4 Program. Early Irrigation Termination of Cotton as a Drought Mitigation Strategy - $32,842 (Dr. Russell Tronstad, Dept. of Agricultural & Resource Economics; Jeffrey C. Silvertooth, Dept. of Soil, Water and Environmental Science).

The Karsten Field Day was held on May 12. 104 attended the seminars at the CAC auditorium while 85 people toured the research plots at the Karsten center and greenhouse.  Many distinguished guests were in attendance. Paul Brown, Jim Walworth, Mohammed Pessarakli, Donna Bigelow, and Dave Kopec gave presentations.

CORRECTION:  Congratulations should also be extended to Michele Lytle, coordinator for Kinship Kare of Northern Arizona (KKONA), who received a community action grant and support from Western Regional Development Center to conduct a simulation workshop in December of 2005.

UPCOMING EVENTS:

Aug.31 - Sept. 2 - Annual Conference will be held at Loews Ventana Canyon Resort in Tucson. Registrations and request for presentations and poster sessions will be available within the next few weeks.
