Three faculty are undertaking new opportunities: Anthony Chavez has resigned his position effective July 20 to begin a new position with the Arizona Department of Game and Fish. He plans to continue to partner with Cooperative Extension in the Shooting Sports program. We appreciate his past contributions and look forward to continuing collaborative efforts.

Janet Paz is retiring effective September 30 to pursue new opportunities as care giver and retiree. Janet has played a major role in our EFNEP programs and Family and Youth programs in both Santa Cruz and Pima counties. We thank her for all her quality efforts.

Esther Peterson has tendered her resignation effective January 1, 2005. Esther plans to spend more time taking care of her mother and other kin. We appreciate her many contributions and wish her well. We know that she will continue to partner in family and youth programs.

Darcy Tessman made an excellent presentation to the CALS Alumni Board of Directors meeting last Saturday in Sierra Vista. She also presented the vision of a new Extension Learning Center at U of A South being developed by Cochise county faculty, staff and their fund development team. Dean Sander reported on the "State of CALS" and Linda Houtkooper reported on the Department of Nutritional Services. Bryan Rowland and his staff did an excellent job. hanks.

UPCOMING EVENTS:

August 25 - 11th Annual Maricopa County Summer Short Course from 9:00-3:00, entitled "Two Tough Weeds." Registration is $35.00 includes handouts, lunch and refreshments. Deadline to register is Aug. 20, late fee is $50. Enrollment is limited to 75. Speakers will be Dr. David Kopec, Dr. Bill McCloskey, Pat Clay and Kai Umeda. August 31-September  2 - CALS Faculty Conference, Loew's Ventana Canyon Resort, Tucson. A poster session is also offered as well as the awards luncheon.  Register on line at www.cals.arizona.edu/calsnet/conf.   New extended deadline date for submitting presentations is July 16.  The registration deadline is July 23 and poster presentations must be registered by August 1.  Poster presentation space is limited and on a first-come, first-served basis.
