September 28, 2004

In support of diversity efforts within CALS and Cooperative Extension, I am pleased to announce the Call for Proposals for the College of Agriculture & Life Sciences (CALS) James P. & Shirley J. O'Brien Endowment.  Proposal submission instructions and the endowment gift agreement are available at http://ag.arizona.edu/agdiv/ .  This award differs from the "Shirley O'Brien Diversity Award" that was designed to honor individuals who have contributed significantly to the advancement of diversity within the College.  If you have any questions, contact Jim Christenson (621-7205, jimc@ag.arizona.edu) or Steven Crofts (621-7145, scrofts@ag.arizona.edu).

Dr. Dan McDonald, FCS Research Specialist will be joining the Pima County Extension Office starting October 1.  He will be supervising the EFNEP program and become part of the Pima County FCS team.  He will be moving his office from FCS to the Pima County Extension Office and can be reached at 520 626-5161, 4210 N. Campbell, Tucson, AZ 85719.

Congratulations to Barron Orr, Office of Arid Lands, who with Dr. Phil Rasmussen received $46,677 for "On-Target Fellowship Program: Empowering Agents of Change," for training of county extension agents and educators in use of geographic information and existing decision support tools sponsored by USDA and ANSA and inject that expertise into the state and local programs.

Congratulations to Randy Norton, Sue Martin, Lee Clark and Jonie Burge for the 2nd Annual Safford Water Festival and conducted volunteer training September 13.

RangeView http://rangeview.arizona.edu/ is a multidisciplinary initiative designed to make biweekly satellite imagery and other geospatial data available to natural resource managers. It is a decision aid that provides applications for viewing, animating, and analyzing satellite imagery in order to monitor vegetation dynamics through time and across landscapes. RangeView is simple to use and valuable for natural resource managers, land owners, educators, and researchers.
