Tuesday Morning Notes

November 16, 2004

In the October 26 edition of Tuesday Morning Notes, I reminded all faculty and staff that they are not authorized to sign contracts and that it is university policy that all grants, contracts, and memorandums of understanding must be signed by the university Contracting Officer or authorized individuals in Sponsored Projects.  At that time we were advised by Sponsored Projects to assemble an inventory of current grants, contracts, and MOUs which have been routed outside the university, so we can assess and monitor our current liability.  The deadline for providing the required information is this Friday, November 19.  Please be sure this information is submitted on time.  If you have any questions, contact Alma Sperr (520-621-7192, perr@ag.arizona.edu) since I will be out of the office this week.  The original request can be reviewed at http://ag.arizona.edu/extension/tuesday/2004/04-10-26.html .

About 100 producers attended the 3rd Annual Arizona Dairy Production Conference held in Phoenix last Thursday.  Matt VanBaale, Animal Sciences, led the conference with Bob Collier, Head of Animal Sciences, providing a"State of the UA Department of Animal Sciences." It was good to see Denis Armstrong again who remains active in our programs in his emeritus status. Lance Baumgard, Animal Sciences, helped. Thanks to all for a very good meeting.

The Norton School (FCS) entertained more than 100 participants in their"Naming of the School" last week. A "who's who" of CEO's from the retailing sector attended. Fantastic gathering.

The National meeting of 4-H (NEA4H) occurred the last week in October, in Oklahoma City, with Lisa Lauxman elected as President Elect position. She will take over as President in 2006. Congratulations, Lisa.

The Master Gardeners of Yavapai, Gila, and Coconino counties held the fifth Annual Arizona Highlands Garden Conference in Camp Verde October 18 and 19. Nationally recognized authors' Lauren Springer-Ogden, Scott Ogden, and John Greenlee were keynote speakers. Several other regional and local experts also presented seminars to 172 attendees. Next year's conference will be held in Coconino County. Thanks to all the enthusiastic Master Gardeners and generous sponsors that made this outstanding event possible.
