I am honored to report that former Dean, Dr. Bart Cardon, will be recognized
in the National 4-H Hall of Fame, Class of 2005. We are sad that the
announcement could not be made before his recent death.
Congratulations to Dr. Tim Dennehy, Extension Specialist and Professor,
Department of Entomology. Tim is one of two recipients of the University
Distinguished Outreach Faculty Awards. This award recognizes outstanding
faculty whose scholarship-based outreach to the state, nation and the world
has demonstrated sustained excellence in the University of Arizona's
outreach mission. The recipients will be honored at the December 2005
commencement.
Pima County Cooperative Extension will receive funding in the amount of
$28,756 for 2 years for the Grandparents Raising Grandchildren program. The
funding is a Community Services Block Grant from the Pima County Board of
Supervisors. Dan McDonald, Cynthia Flynn and Bob Peterson are
collaborators on the grant. The proposal includes the simulation workshop
that Coconino County did in December 2004. Another major component is
providing additional outreach to grandparents and children with the 4-H
Challenge Program.
There will be a 4HPlus conference call on Friday, April 22, beginning at
10:30. Chuck Nash with C & K Ventures will be in Tucson to do the
presentation on 4H4ME and answer questions regarding 4HPlus. This two-hour
videoconferencing will allow you to hook up via the phone and be on the
computer at the same time. One line per county has been set up and we are
encouraging the key person who handles the 4-H data enrollment management
system to participate. Information was sent out to county lead staff and all
units need to RSVP to Jennifer Stapp (jenstapp@ag.arizona.edu) by this
Thursday, April 21.
