Congratulations to Paul Kohn who will become the Assistant Vice President
for Admissions and Financial Aid beginning June 6, 2005. After an extensive
national search, Paul emerged as the clear choice among all of the campus
constituencies including the Search Committee. Paul received his B.S. and
M.S. degrees from Cornell University in Animal Sciences and Educational
Administration respectively, and his Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from
the University of Arizona. Paul has been at the UA since 1989 serving as
Senior Academic Advisor, Program Coordinator, Assistant Dean, and Managing
Director of the Office of Academic Programs in the College of Agriculture
and Life Sciences. In September of last year, Paul agreed to serve as
Interim Director of Admissions. I believe that Paul is the best student
advisor on campus. We will miss him in CALS but he will continue to serve us
well in his new role.
CALS Guidelines and Criteria for Promotion and Tenure/Continuing Status
emphasize the importance of position descriptions in providing the context
for all evaluation decisions. Position descriptions are read carefully by
outside evaluators and by CALS and university committees. The weight that
evaluators give to various sections of the dossier is determined by the
expectations stated in the job description. Position descriptions also play
a role in post tenure review later. Make sure you have an updated position
description. It is required.
Project CENTRL Class XVIII application deadline is June 1. Candidates must
be at least 25 years of age. Please encourage potential candidates that you
feel would gain from this program in your county to apply. Extension faculty
are also encouraged to apply for Project CENTRL. We recognize the added
value in having a diverse mix of rural leaders that represent all of Arizona
in each CENTRL class. Additional information and applications can be found
at http://ag.arizona.edu/centrl or contact Karen Vanderheyden, CENTRL
Program Coordinator (520-316-0909 / kvander@ag.arizona.edu).
