We are pleased to welcome Dr. Kurt Nolte to Yuma county as a new Area County Associate Agent, continuing eligible. Kurt began Monday and is still trying to work out e-mail address and other related issues. He comes with considerable experience in Yuma, serving as the prime agriculture instructor at Western Arizona College for over six years. Kurt also carries a second title as Associate Regional Specialist with an appointment in the Department of Plant Sciences. Welcome aboard.
This year?s CALS Faculty Conference will be at Westin La Paloma - ?Bridging Science and Society?- from August 23-25. Fred Boice from the Board of Regents is our guest speaker. Highlights include presentations on innovative connections - campus to society, outreach track, scholarship track, poster session, working group presentations, awards breakfast, fun and fitness programs and plenty of networking opportunities. On-line registration for the poster session, working group presentations, pre and post conference meetings/association meetings and regular registration are now available at the website below. If for some reason you register for lodging and are not able to attend, please be kind enough to let us know right away so that we are not billed for vacant rooms or meals and so we do not have to bill your office. JOLT is an Arizona Teen Leadership Camp, a camp designed by a teen-adult partnership for teens. At JOLT there is a positive environment that promotes personal development, team building and self-confidence. The 118 youth and adults representing 14 counties enjoyed activities last week at Camp Shadow Pines that built trust, leadership, etiquette and communication skills. Hats off to faculty and staff- Bryan Chadd, Maricopa, Gerald Olson, Mohave, Amy Parrott,Yuma, Brent Strickland, La Paz and Cindy Pearson , Graham and to the talented youth staff: Daney Glenn, La Paz, Samantha Morriss, Santa Cruz, Tanner Herbert and Michael McAllister, Cochise, Anthony Campbell, Coconino, and Sarah Walker, Yavapai.
The University of Arizona 4-H Youth Development Program is offering the first- ever State Teen Adult Retreat or STAR. This will be a leadership team experience for teens and adults at the University of Arizona campus, July 10th to the 12th. Youth and adults will stay in the U of A dorms, experience campus life even using a U of A meal card! It is the goal of the Arizona 4-H Youth-Adult Council for every county to send a team consisting of at least two teens and one adult. Teams may also come from other youth organizations, agencies, schools, faith groups, or community groups. Regular registration of $125 has been extended to Friday, June 24th, and late registration of $150 is after June 25th, there being no promise of dorm space after June 24th. The Arizona Farmers? Direct Marketing Association has a summer meeting Monday, July 18 at Wolfberry Farm in Chino Valley.
