Congratulations to Steve Campbell, who has been invited to serve on a panel at the White House Conference on Cooperative Conservation. Steve will be discussing our role in organizing county governments and completing community fire plans.

Sabrina Tuttle, Extension Agent for the San Carlos Apache Reservation, received an award at the annual conference of the Association for International Agricultural and Extension Education (AIAEE) in San Antonio, TX. She was awarded the second runner up in the Article of the Year Award for the Journal of International Agricultural and Extension Education (2004), for her article: "Men, Women, and Participatory Delivery Strategies for Selected Villagers in Northern Mexico."

July 6, 2005: Melon Insect Losses Workshop. John Palumbo, Pat Clay and Al Fournier will work with PCAs and growers to develop insect losses, control costs, and insect control information for the state of Arizona. 2:00-5:00 pm (refreshments provided, RSVP required) at the Maricopa County Cooperative Extension Office, Ocotillo Room, 4341 E. July 7, 2005: Drip Irrigation Field Day. Tom Thompson has organized a workshop on drip irrigation at the Maricopa Agricultural Center (MAC). Speakers will include Tom Thompson, Pat Clay, Mary Olson, Russ Tronstad, and John Palumbo. Time 7:45 am to 1:00 pm. Lunch will be provided (no RSVP necessary). July 20, 2005: University of Arizona Extension Turfgrass Field Day and Golf. This hands-on program at the Maricopa Agricultural Center includes field demonstrations on turf establishment, calibration, irrigation troubleshooting and bermudagrass repair and renovation. Followed by lunch and an 18-hole "turf inspection tour" at the nearby Duke golf course. 7:30 am check-in time at MAC, Lunch and Golf at The Duke from noon. The registration fee of $40 includes handouts, lunch, refreshments and golf. Kerry Schwartz, director of Arizona Project WET (Water Education for Teachers), has been promoted to area associate agent with Arizona Cooperative Extension, housed at the Water Resources Research Center. This promotion to an Extension faculty position recognizes Kerry?s excellent water education program, which includes training teachers to integrate water curriculum into the classroom, developing K-12 water curriculum correlated to state educational standards, and the Make a Splash with Project WET water festival program. As Area Agent, Kerry?s geographic region is statewide. Kerry, who has been Director of Project WET since 1999, holds a M.S. degree in Geosciences/Geohydrology from The University of Arizona and a B.S. degree in Geology from James Madison University.

Dana Flowers has been promoted to Assistant Agent, Natural Resources/Water, Maricopa County. In her new position, Dana will continue her work on behalf of the University of Arizona Water Sustainability Program, with a particular focus on delivery of water education programs in Maricopa County, and remain affiliated with the Water Resources Research Center. Dana holds an MS in Environmental Resource management & Environmental Education from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania, and has worked for Arizona Cooperative Extension since March 2002.
