Tuesday Morning Notes

August 30, 2005

Please welcome Melvina Adolf to our Cooperative Extension family. Melvina is Assistant Area Agent, 4-H Youth Development, Graham County, and also serving Greenlee County. Melvina's first day was August 22, 2005. Give her a call.

I thought we had an outstanding Annual Faculty Conference last week. Ursula Schuch and Mike Hauser, the program committee, and all of our office support staff really made everything go smoothly. And we came in on budget. The very reasonable room rates really helped out. My thanks to all of you for your participation. The opportunity to network was likely the most valuable experience. We will try to replicate and enhance this success next year. I am pleased to announce that George Frisvold (Ag. and Resource Economics) and Victor Jimenez (Ag Ventures of MAC) have agreed to co-chair next year's meeting. If anyone would like to volunteer, give George, Vic, or myself a call. We will be putting together a committee over the next month.

Russ Tronstad (ARE) received the Extension Faculty of the Year award. We had to twist his arm to get him there as he was headed to Montana. He would like to thank everyone that has worked with him to identify, develop, and deliver Extension Programs in the past. He believes the collective effort of many individuals helped him receive this recognition. He would also like to thank everyone for their flexibility with the awards program so that his family was able to drive north to make all of the activities surrounding his Father's 80th birthday in Montana.

The goal of these funds is to empower at least 5 Arizona communities to map invasive species and assess wildfire risk with simplified data transfer and data management. In the longer term, this will result in increased awareness of interaction between wildfire and invasive species and improved management and mitigation locally.
