Tuesday Morning Notes

March 7, 2006

We would like to acknowledge the outstanding support given by our 4-H volunteers, agents, staff and Pima County Master Gardeners to the Alabama 4-H contingency of regional agents, county directors, 4-H specialists and administrators. The Alabama contingency was here to review our community-based 4-H program--in particular, how we recruit and train volunteers and offer specialty programs so they can expand their program from a school base to a community-based program. We would specifically like to extend a “thank you” to the faculty (Bryan Chadd, Kim Gressley, Cathy Martinez, Darcy Tessman, Curt Peters and Julie Adamcin) of Maricopa, Pinal, Cochise and Pima for their participation.

Cooperative Extension, in cooperation with the College and ECAT, adopted the use of our new Extension logo last fall; guidelines were sent to all units (see http://cals.arizona.edu/extension/graphics/guidelines.pdf). However, we have seen both the Extension and University graphics used incorrectly (or not at all) on several publications and websites. To meet both Extension's marketing needs and satisfy the University's identification requirements, the Extension logo must be used in conjunction with the UAs "A" or wordmark logos. I am asking all units producing any Extension publications or marketing materials (such as newsletters, workshop materials, posters, websites, signs and all other forms of media) to: 1) use the new logo on all publications and materials, 2) use the "A" or wordmark on all materials, and 3) use the EEO indicia on all materials. In addition, I encourage you to promote a link between Extension and CALS within those same publications. I will be working with County Extension Directors to enhance this marketing effort.

The State Office and CALS Administrative Services would like to remind you that although the upcoming pay increase will be reflected in your March 31 paycheck, you need to remember that this is a three-paycheck month and the March 31 paycheck will be higher than normal since some deductions are not be taken out. The April 14 paycheck will be the one you want to use for your personal budgeting since it will be the first paycheck to reflect your regular deductions and the pay increase.

Upcoming Events & Reminders:

Pima County Cooperative Extension invites you to participate in a unique professional development experience designed by Coconino County Cooperative Extension to identify gaps and duplications in services, and to foster stronger, healthier families for the State of Arizona. Consider attending the “Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Simulation Workshop,” on Thursday, March 9, 2006, 8:00am to 3:00pm, at the Inn Suites Hotel in Tucson, Arizona. Registration for the simulation workshop is $35 per person and CEUs are available. If you are interested, please contact Dan McDonald or Linda Block at 520-626-5161.

*It was brought to my attention that there was one important group not mentioned in today’s Tuesday Morning Notes regarding the Alabama 4-H contingency tour and visit – it was the Maricopa County Master Gardener program who assisted with the Alabama 4-H group not only in February, but also in December as well! They did a great job in laying out and explaining systems and volunteer programs and should also receive special thanks.
