Upcoming Events & Reminders: 

The Arizona Community Training ACT III-Civic Leadership Training Institute will be held on May 9-10 at the Yavapai County Cooperative Extension Office (840 Rodeo Drive, Prescott).  All University of Arizona Cooperative Extension faculty, staff and clientele are invited to attend.  The program is from 5:00-8:30pm on May 9 and 8:30am-3:30pm on May 10.  Registration is $50 (non-refundable), due by May 1, and covers all materials and meals.  Travel and lodging is the responsibility of the participant.  Make checks payable to the University of Arizona and send to ACT III-Civic Leadership training Institute, University of Arizona Cooperative Extension, 840 Rodeo Drive #C, Prescott, Arizona 86305.  IDBs are accepted.  For more information, contact Marta Stuart , Family Consumer Sciences Agent, 928-445-6590, ext. 225 or Juanita Waits , 4-H Youth Development Agent, 602- 470-8086, ext. 331.

The Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Southern Arizona Coalition will hold their Annual Conference on May 11 from 8:oak-12:opt at the Inn Suites Hotel, 175 N. Granada, Tucson.   The conference is free of charge and will focus on the results of the Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Simulation workshop held in March 2006 and service integration related to kin care families.   The keynote speaker will be David Barns, Director of the Arizona Department of Economic Security who will discuss the initiatives undertaken by DES.  The conference is  co-sponsored by Pima County Cooperative Extension, The University of Arizona, Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Southern Arizona Coalition, the K.A.R.E. Family Center, Pima Council on Aging, Arizona Children's Association, Casey Family Programs, and AARP.   Space is limited and reservations are required.  To reserve a space, contact Joyce Hasselberger (520-626-5161 / prentice@ag.arizona.edu ) by Friday, May 5.

The 15th Annual Desert Horticulture Conference will be held on May 19 at the Tucson Convention Center.  The conference presents information for green industry professionals in four tracks on arboriculture, timely topics, design, and maintenance.  Program and registration information can be found at http://ag.arizona.edu/deserthort/

Early bird registration ends May 23 for the University of Arizona Water Resources Research Center's Annual Conference, “Providing Water to Arizona's Growing Population: How Will We Meet the Obligation?” The conference is being held on June 20-21 at the Hyatt Regency Civic Center in Phoenix.  Registration before May 23 is $105 for Day 1 and $150 for Days 1-2.  Registration after May 23 will be $125 and $170.  A block of hotel rooms will be held until May 25 and you can call the hotel directly (602-252-1234) and ask for the Water Conference.  Registration and an updated agenda is at http://cals.arizona.edu/AZWATER/conf2006/ .  Governor Napolitano has been invited to convene the conference.  Day 1 includes a session on addressing water planning for growth, followed by a discussion panel, and afternoon sessions on perspectives from developers/home builders/realtors, the role of the Central Arizona Groundwater Replenishment District, and views from public officials.  Day 2 is an optional half-day workshop focusing on meeting the long-term water needs of Central Arizona and implications for the rest of the state; a presentation and panel discussion on necessary political decisions, infrastructure investments and water management programs; and an open discussion on key policy questions and issues.  For additional information, contact Cas Sprout (520-792-9591, ext. 55).
