Congratulations to Alix Rogstad, who will be departing the University of Arizona at the end of June. She has been offered an excellent opportunity with Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland.
Congratulations to Matt Livingston and Dr. Cornelia Flora (Iowa State University) for the selection of their proposal, "Understanding Traditional Foods Security of Hopi Single Parent Headed Households: Outreach to the Hopi Community and its Organizations" for a second round of funding. The $30,000 grant is from the The University of Arizona Native Peoples Technical Assistance Office, Claudia E. Nelson, Director. The grant provides funds for outreach to the Hopi community about the results of the current grant, "Understanding Traditional Foods Security of Hopi Single Parent Headed Households." Additionally, it provides funding to look at the effects of commodity foods on Hopi and funding to survey the attitudes of Hopi youth towards traditional foods and agriculture. The on-reservation community development non-profit, the Hopi Pu'tavi Project, will administer the grant.
The working groups and state initiatives have been funded. You can access a list, including a link to each proposal, by clicking on the following: Working Groups or State Initiatives .

A new survey of groundwater stores by the U. S. Geological Survey found that volatile organic compounds are found in 90% of aquifers, although generally at levels considered safe for human consumption. Jeff Schalau and Susan Pater will be investigating this and other concerns for private well owners. They recently received funding from the Water Sustainability Program to pilot test an educational outreach program targeted at well owners.
