Tuesday Morning Notes

June 27, 2006

DECISION PACKAGE APPROVED:

We are most pleased that the state has approved $1.5 million in funding for new positions in the counties and at the ag centers.  Before we start this process in early August, we want to know if there is county faculty interested in relocating to new positions that will be available throughout the state. Several of these positions may assume CED roles. .  Please let me know in writing by July 13 about your willingness to relocate.  Thanks for all your personal contact with elected officials to make this happen.  Please thank them personally.  A special thanks to the Dean and Mike Proctor who carried the day.

OUTREACH EFFORTS:

The Arizona Daily Star reported that “the UA is creating a new vice president position to elevate its focus on outreach, anticipating new directions or expanded roles for a loose grouping of programs.  The Arizona Board of Regents approved the change Thursday at the board meeting on the Northern Arizona University campus.  Eugene Sander, currently dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and vice provost for outreach, will be the new vice president for outreach.  He will retain his duties as dean, a position he has held since coming to the UA in 1987.  Sander will oversee the UA South in Sierra Vista, Benson and Douglas, as well as ‘2+2' programs with Cochise and Pima community colleges, the joint UA-PCC admissions program in Tucson, agricultural partnerships in Yuma and various distance-learning and online programs.  ‘We have come to the conclusion at the University of Arizona that we need to better integrate the various outreach activities in which we engage,' said UA President Peter Likins.”

FOCUS ON FACULTY:

I am pleased to announce that the National Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (NEAFCS) have selected Sharon Hoelscher Day and other team members from Arizona as the National Winner and Western Region Finalist in the Florence Hall Award category of the 2006 NEAFCS National Awards Program.  The NEAFCS Awards Program provides recognition for members in the areas of professional development, communications, program development, and public relations.  This year, there were more than 500 award applications submitted for the competition.  Being selected as a winner is a very impressive accomplishment.  The official announcement of award winners will be made at the 2006 NEAFCS Annual Session & Exhibits, October 3-6, 2006 in Denver.  Congratulations to Sharon and her team members!

There will not be captions or narration to accompany this PowerPoint.  Photos should be sharp, in good focus, and at least 300 dpi.
