NEW FACULTY:

Please join me in welcoming our new department head, Dr. John (Jack) Schmitz .  Dr. Schmitz, DVM, PhD, comes to us from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln with many years experience as department head, professor, diagnostician and pathologist.  We wish him all the best in his new position.

FOCUS ON FACULTY:

Ursula Schuch and Trent Teegerstrom have a great article in the latest issue of Southwestern Horticulture on “Managing Risk for Nursery Producers – Tools to Consider”.  Congratulations to both of you.

UPCOMING EVENTS & DEADLINES:

The Arizona Community Vitality Initiative Workgroup is making available three $1,000 competitive grants to promote university and community partnerships in community vitality/community development.  A university community partnership is required.  Matching funds are encouraged but not required.  The deadline for submission of electronic applications is September 15, 5:00 p.m.  For more information and detailed instructions for application, go to http://ag.arizona.edu/pima and click on the downloadable application form and instructions and/or contact Cynthia Flynn .

The UA College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, the Department of Nutritional Sciences, the Center for Physical Activity and Nutrition and Gatorade Sports Science Institute are pleased to present the 2006 Nutrition for Fitness & Sport Conference.  This one-day event is taking place on Friday, October 6 at the Health Sciences Center on the UA campus.   Participants will learn the latest in nutritional sport science and how to apply this information to enhance personal fitness, health, and athletic performance.
