NEW WEBSITE:

eXtension is pleased to announce the launch of its first Community of Practice web site, HorseQuest . HorseQuest provides Internet visitors with reliable and up-to-date horse information through a knowledge base of commonly asked questions that have science-based, peer-reviewed answers.  In addition, online lessons use self-paced learning objects to help users learn more about specialized areas of equine science. The newest lesson being introduced is a module for new and prospective horse owners.

FACULTY/STAFF ROSTER UPDATE:

UPCOMING EVENTS & DEADLINES:

The Arizona Community Vitality Initiative Workgroup is making available three $1,000 competitive grants to promote university and community partnerships in community vitality/community development.  A university community partnership is required.  Matching funds are encouraged but not required.  The deadline for submission of electronic applications is September 15, 5:00 p.m.  For more information and detailed instructions for application, go to http://ag.arizona.edu/pima and click on the downloadable application form and instructions and/or contact Cynthia Flynn .

The UA College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, the Department of Nutritional Sciences, the Center for Physical Activity and Nutrition and Gatorade Sports Science Institute are pleased to present the 2006 Nutrition for Fitness & Sport Conference.  This one-day event is taking place on Friday, October 6 at the Health Sciences Center on the UA campus.   Participants will learn the latest in nutritional sport science and how to apply this information to enhance personal fitness, health, and athletic performance. Although this conference is geared toward health professionals, the content is appropriate for athletes, casual exercisers, or people interested in improving their health, managing their weight, and increasing energy levels.  For more information and online registration, visit the Sports Nutrition Conference website or call the conference coordinator, Melanie Hingle (520.621.9344).

The La Paz County Extension invites all CALS faculty and staff to attend the Grand Opening of their new Grower-Cooperative Greenhouse on Wednesday, October 25.  Tours start at 10:00am with lunch and greenhouse produce sampling at noon.  The facility features tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, eggplant, herbs and a deep flow hydroponic lettuce production system.   For more information contact Linda Masters (928.669.9843) or Debbie May (520.237.6405).
