FOCUS ON FACULTY:
Id like to welcome Erik Glenn who joined the Yavapai County faculty as Area Assistant Agent, Community Resource Development as of last week, August 15 . He will serve Northern Arizona from the Camp Verde location at the Grosetta Education Center. He will be located at OALS until the Grosetta Educational Center is completed.
FOCUS ON PROGRAMS:
Arizona Project WET (APW) has recently released the new Arizona Conserve Water Educators' Guide . Thanks to dedicated statewide sponsors and partners, Arizona has the only stand-alone, state-specific water curriculum there is nationwide. Workshops are being offered on this guide August 18 and 25 (16-hour training) in Phoenix , September 22 in Sedona , September 29 in Tucson , and October 13 in Mesa . Sign up for a workshop at http://ag.arizona.edu/AZWATER/wet/GW_Upcoming.html and receive a free copy. This is the fifth water related workshop that is offered through the APW program. WEB CASTING PRESENTATIONS:
- A Web casting presentation for the Assistant/Associate Agent, Urban Horticulture position in Yuma County, titled Planning and Implementing Extension Urban Horticulture Programs for Yuma County, will be tomorrow, Wednesday, August 22 . Candidate and time is: Stacy Bealmear , 10:30-11:15am.
- A Web casting presentation for the Assistant/Associate Agent, 4-H Youth Development in Graham County, titled Addressing Healthy Lifestyles and Its Role in Youth and Family Programs for Graham County, will be Thursday, August 23 . Candidate and time is: Lauren Romig , 8:15-9:00am.

WESTERN REGION TEACHING SYMPOSIUM:
CALS is sponsoring the Western Region Teaching Symposium (Educational Excellence: Rooted in Research), September 21-22 , at the UA Memorial Student Union. I encourage Extension faculty to explore participation in this teaching program. Dr. Dave Cox will cover the registration fee. Session topics at the symposium will be Teaching With Flair, Applications for Effective Teaching & Learning, Brain-Based Research: Messages for Teaching, Preferences in the Classroom: The Contribution of Learning Styles and Multiple Intelligences to Student Learning, Creative Learning, and Problem Solving. There is a new CALS publication that has been posted: Invasive Plants in Arizona's Forests and Woodlands (Climate Change and Variability in Southwest Ecosystems Series) by Alix Rogstad , Tom DeGomez , and Carolyn Hull Sieg.
UPCOMING EVENTS & DEADLINES:
The Water Resources Research Center (along with the Institute for the Study of Planet Earth, Pima County, Arizona Hydrological Society, Southwest Hydrology, Southern Arizona Leadership Council and Temple Emanu-El) are sponsoring a public lecture on Thursday, August 30 , 7:30pm, Temple Emanu-El, 225 N. Country Club, Tucson. The guest speaker will be Dr. Peter Gleick who will discuss innovate strategies for achieving sustainable water use. He is co-founder and president of the Pacific Institute for Studies in Development, Environment, and Security and the principal author of the recent publication, "The World's Water 2006-2007, The Biennial Report on Freshwater Resources." Dr. Gleick will be in Tucson participating in a regional water symposium, "Sustainable Water, Unlimited Growth, Quality of Life: Can We Have it All?," an event sponsored by the Arizona Hydrologic Society and Southwest Hydrology.
