FOCUS ON FACULTY & STAFF:

Congratulations to Kim Gressley and Lani Hall (Gila County) who received grant funding from the State Farm Youth Advisory Board out of Bloomington, Illinois.  Theirs was chosen from over 300 proposals, and funded for $94,200 for one year. 

FOCUS ON PROGRAMS:

Cooperative Extensions Backyards and Beyond - Rural Living in Arizona magazine is targeted to small acreage landowners and backyard enthusiasts. If you arent familiar with the magazine, go to http://ag.arizona.edu/backyards/ to view past issues.  We need help from faculty and staff that would like to contribute articles or high resolution photos, serve as a member of the planning and editorial group, volunteer to review articles, or help promote subscriptions.  Articles will go through a formal peer review process starting with the spring issue.  To discuss when you can submit an article and how you can help to ensure the magazine's success, contact Kim McReynolds or  Susan Pater (520.384.3594) or Jeff Schalau (928.445.6590 x224).

UPCOMING EVENTS & DEADLINES:

- eXtension Launch: The launch of the national eXtension website will take place on February 21.  Arizona Cooperative Extension will be celebrating this event by holding a Breeze session in which Arizona Extension Faculty will share their experiences of being involved with eXtension.  The Breeze session will start at 11:30 am.  Please go to http://breeze.ltc.arizona.edu/extension/ to see the Arizona portion of this celebration.  Video streaming of the national eXtension ceremony will be available at http://www.extension.iastate.edu/webcast.  For more information, contact Sheila Merrigan (520.626.6543).

- Range 101 Arizona Guide to Range Management and Analysis:  Mohave County Extension is partnering with the Arizona Grazing Lands Conservation Association, UA School of Natural Resources, Arizona Cattle Growers Association, Society for Range Management, Natural Resources Conservation Service and the USDA to offer a workshop February 19-20.  The workshop will be held at Mohave Community College in Kingman, Arizona.  The registration deadline is February 8.  For information and registration materials, contact Barb Gibson (520.621.7264) with the UA School of Natural Resources.

- Climate and Deserts Workshop: Adaptive Management of Desert Ecosystems in a Changing Climate:  Join leading scientists and educators to learn more about emerging climate and desert ecology research.  This workshop provides the opportunity to interact with scientists to discuss and create practical tools for natural resource managers, decision-makers and practitioners, as well as a forum for training, education and discussion regarding climate variation and its impact on Southwestern desert areas.  The workshop will be held April 9-11 at the Aquarius Casino Resort in Laughlin, Nevada.  The early registration deadline is March 17.  For more information, contact Russell Scofield (760.365.0955) with the Department of Interior or Chris Jones (928.402.8586).
