Welcome to Family and Consumer Sciences Education!
I am pleased to take this opportunity to tell you about the Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) major at the UA.
Job opportunities in this field are growing at an astonishing rate. There were numerous job openings for Family and Consumer Sciences teachers in Arizona this year, and only six graduates looking. As a result, all of the graduates of Family and Consumer Sciences Education this year are employed and many vacancies remain. Due to expanding programs and anticipated retirements, the teacher shortage is expected to continue. In addition, the need for family life education programs in workplace and community settings is increasing.
Selecting the FACS major gives you two options: you may choose to pursue certification as a classroom teacher or as a family life educator who works in government or community-based agencies.
I hope you will consider applying for admission with FACS as your major. Since FACS is a relatively small program within the School, you will have me as your advisor and immediately become a VIP! Please feel free to contact me or via email, mekelly@ag.arizona.edu, should you wish to discuss this information further or would like to come to campus for a visit.
