Family and Consumer Sciences Minor


FCSC minors will gain knowledge and skills to work with children and families in a community. There are three core classes, and 9 units of elective classes listed below:

Core Classes (9 units):

FSHD 117— Lifespan and Human Development
FCSC 302— Family and Consumer Personal Finances
FCSC 494— Practicum (3 units = 135 hours)
Working with Children and Youth:
Provides students with advanced
knowledge and fundamental skills for working with children and youth in school or community settings.
Course Electives (choose 9 units):
FCSC 418— Program Evaluation for Community-Based Child and Youth Programs (3 units)
FCSC 423— Understanding and Working with Young Children (3 units) 
FCSC 427c— Problems in Child and Adolescent Development (3 units)
FCSC 477— Understanding and Working with Adolescents (3 units)
FCSC 488— Methods for Studying Children and Adolescents (3 units)
FCSC 411a—Understanding United States Military Structure from a Family Perspective (1 unit)*
FCSC 411b—Understanding the Modern United States Military Family (3 units) 

*is a prerequisite for FCSC 411b
