Gila County Cooperative Extension and Gila County Community College offer AGR 230 “Gardening and Landscape/Master Gardener” class. This class provides the training and opportunity to become a Master Gardener volunteer for Gila County. Consult the college class schedule to enroll. Current offerings are planned for:

· Spring 2007 – Gila Pueblo Campus

· Fall 2007 – Payson Campus

Main instructors include Christopher Jones, Terry Mikel, and Cayci Vuksanovich. The course includes field trips and other specialists to instruct several of the classes, making this course exceptionally informative and well tailored to Gila County.

The class can be taken for three credit units, which includes 16 class meetings and field trips for a total of 48 hours of instruction and a 918-page text specific to Arizona home horticulture. The cost for the course includes standard tuition and fees required by Gila County Community College, and $45.00 for the text. Financial aid and scholarships may be available for those who qualify through the college, including a Senior Citizenship Scholarship.

A Master Gardener receives certification after successfully completing the course, and remains active by conducting at least 50 hours of volunteer service in the following year, and then 25 hours of service and 12 hours of continuing education in following years.
