Watershed

The Master Watershed Steward Program in Gila County provides education to citizens of the county to equip them to serve their communitites in enhancing local natural resources.

The program consists of a series of educational sessions, including field trips. Some of the topics covered in the program are:

  • geology
  • climate
  • watershed and stream processes
  • soils and erosion
  • vegetation and wildlife, and
  • water related issues.
After completing the training sessions, participants are expected to volunteer 40 hours on a watershed enhancement project in their community or on their own land to apply the information and skills received from the program. Projects may include on-the-ground enhancement activities, monitoring, survey or assessment, community education, curriculum development or create your own!
