The list of committees
varies over time because of the large and diverse college. Generally,
the number of committees is about 20-25. The number of awards varies,
but is approximately 12, some awarded quarterly and some annually. Processes
for evaluation and position searches differ for appointed personnel (faculty
and academic professionals) and classified staff.
Committee Memberships
and Purpose
- Committee memberships
and purpose are listed on the above link. Generally, the committees
are appointed by members of the College Executive Council. Exceptions
are the Faculty Council, which is composed of all elected faculty senators.
The Staff Council develops recommendations for membership that are acted
on by the Dean and Executive Council.

Employee Awards
- Awards are available
for faculty, staff, administrators, academic personnel, and teams. The
above link lists the awards, criteria, and past recipients. Some awards
are developed by committees (e.g., the Student Advisory Council selects
the A+ Advisor Award, the Staff Council selects the Outstanding Staff
Award), Awards include the quarterly Idea Award.

Employees
Evaluations (this is the evaluation forms link)
- Evaluations for
classified staff are done annually, on the anniversary of the hiring
date. Faculty, Academic Professionals, and administrators prepare annual
reports. See the link above for more information on specific forms (and
their instructions).
-
Professional Development
- CALS has a training
policy for classified staff. Each .5 FTE or above, non-probationary
classified staff employee is encouraged to attend at least 16 hours
of class, seminar or training per fiscal year in addition to any mandatory
orientation, safety or training class. Classified staff can request
$50 per year from their unit to cover development or training. If units
require training, they will bear the full cost. The Career Development
Support Program was also established to help with the costs of specialized
training which is directly job-related and which may cost significantly
more than $50. Application must be made through CALS Staff Development
Team and must be approved by the Executive Council. In most cases, the
unit splits the cost with the college. Guidelines for this program are
currently under review. For further information see the Staff
Development Team web site. There are also development opportunities
for women faculty members and faculty interested in administrative internships.
for information contact CALS Administrative Services.
-
Unit Annual Reports and Evaluations
- Each unit prepares
an annual report, that is forwarded to the Provost's Office. In addition,
all college units are reviewed annually by the college in an annual
budget and planning session with the Executive Council. Each academic
department undergoes a periodic Academic Program Reviews by the university
and a CSREES
- Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service - review
by USDA (these are coordinated as a single review and occur approximately
every 7 years). Some non-academic units have Sunset Reviews each 5 years.
The college submits each 5 years a Plan
of Work to the US Department of Agriculture covering Cooperative
Extension and Agricultural Experiment Station plans.
-
Position Searches (all positions)
- Classified Staff
position searches require (describe and link to HR site). Academic Professional
searches (add more). Faculty searches (add more). Administrator searches
involved the broadest representation on the search committee (add more).
Position searches are subject to the Affirmative
Action Office, the University
Handbook of Appointed Personnel, the Staff
Policy Manual, and the Office
of Human Resources.
-
Diversity and Equity Activities
- The college has
a Diversity Committee and
works with the University Diversity Office (add link). Diversity considerations
are relevant to position searches, equity analyses, and program and
audience focus. The term diversity is defined by words such as: understanding
other's views, dealing with varied experiences, perspectives and backgrounds,
and representation of multiple groups and approaches within the college.
In a word, diversity is inclusiveness. The college has addressed
equity issues annually. The largest effort was the College Millennium
Committee, which works with the University Millennium Committee.
