The Association of Arizona Food Banks reports that food banks can only serve 412,000 individuals.  209,543 more people are income-eligible but do not receive food boxes.

 

1 in every 4 Arizona children under the age of 12 lacks enough to eat or is at risk of going hungry according to the 1994 Association of Arizona Food Banks Hunger Report.

 

The Arizona Department of Education reports that 58% of income-eligible children in Arizona who qualify for free or reduced priced school breakfasts and lunches are not participation in these programs.

 

According to the Arizona Department of Health Services, 59,612 mothers, infants and children eligible for the Women, Infants & Children program  (WIC) are not being served.

 

Despite the need for economic assistance from the government, congressional proposals recommend cutting $36 billion from food-stamp allocations by 2002.
