Food for Thought

 | The Association of Arizona Food Banks reports that food banks can only serve 412,000
individuals. 209,543 more people are income-eligible but do not receive food boxes. |
 | 1 in every 4 Arizona children under the age of 12 lacks enough to eat or is at risk of
going hungry according to the 1994 Association of Arizona Food Banks Hunger Report. |
 | The Arizona Department of Education reports that 58% of income-eligible children in
Arizona who qualify for free or reduced priced school breakfasts and lunches are not
participation in these programs. |
 | According to the Arizona Department of Health Services, 59,612 mothers, infants and
children eligible for the Women, Infants & Children program (WIC) are not being
served. |
 | Despite the need for economic assistance from the government, congressional proposals
recommend cutting $36 billion from food-stamp allocations by 2002. |
