Type specimens are among the most valuable specimens housed at the University of Arizona Herbarium. These specimens are the actual plant material from which the scientific name of the species or variety was described. They are an incredible resource for researchers and general reference, but their importance also requires treating them with the utmost care.

Our type collection has been imaged in high resolution, in partnership with ASU, the Mellon Foundation, and JSTOR Global Plants. Our type specimen images are available for viewing on the JSTOR website, along with images of type specimens from institutions around the world. To find our set, select "Advanced Search" and enter ARIZ as the herbarium code. Although basic data and low-resolution images are freely available, a subscription is needed to see the high-resolution version of the images on JSTOR. Contact us with any questions about this resource.

Our type images will soon be available through our own specimen search engine.
