Protecting Your Bones for a Lifetime You've always valued being able to do what you want, when you want and not having to ask for help. But imagine having to be dependent on others to do simple activities. This is a very real fear for people with osteoporosis, a disease in which bones become so brittle that they break easily. All of them say if they had known, they would have made changes in their life early. You have an opportunity to do just that as well as help others ensure a healthier and happier life.
Upcoming Bone Builders Volunteer Training - none available at this time. Bone
Builders Physical Activity Program Volunteer Training - TBA Most of our volunteers started because they wanted to learn how to protect themselves against osteoporosis, but now enjoy helping others build strong bones for a lifetime. The training teaches community members how to share information on osteoporosis prevention with their community, including work sites, religious organizations, or health clubs. Some volunteers incorporate the information into their jobs or womenís groups. It is also ideal for fitness, wellness, and healthcare professionals wanting to become better qualified to help their clients, many of whom will be or are facing this disease. For more information or an application, call (602) 827-8200 x 316 or click here. Persons with a disability may request a reasonable accommodation. Requests should be made as early as possible to allow time to arrange the accommodation. Programs offered by Cooperative Extension are open all all people regardless to sex, race, religion, color, national origin, age, Vietnam Era Veteran's status, or disability. Flexible Short-term Opportunities If you are looking for short-term opportunities, we need help getting our posters, brochures and bookmarks to the community. Volunteers would make arrangements to pick up and deliver to locations that they know can use them, i.e., physicians offices, libraries, schools, hair salons, etc. We also need help getting osteoporosis messages to the community through newsletter articles and presentations. You could submit our articles in your church bulletin, work newsletter or community paper. Or you could serve as a host for an osteoporosis presentation at your fitness center, workplace, or community organization. We would provide the materials and presentation, and you make the arrangements for us to speak. For more information or an application, call (602) 827-8200 x 316 or email bones@ag.arizona.edu
