    Campaign for Human Development Grants

    The Office of Peace and Justice of the Diocese of Phoenix, Arizona, is offering their annual Campaign for Human Development (CHD) grant pre-application process. The Campaign for Human Development was established in 1971 to empower low-income community groups to carry out projects that enable participants to engage in the decisions that affect their lives on the social, political and economic level. Four types of applications are available.

      1) Community Organizing Grant
      2) Communtiy Economic Development Grant
      3) Business Development Grant and Loan Program
      4) Capacity Building Initiative Deposit Program

    To be eligible for funding, all CHD projects need to:
      -Have low-income people comprise at least half the decision- making borad of directors for the organization
      -Generate cooperation among diverse groups of people
      -Work to change conditions that create and perpetuate poverty
      -Directly benefit a large number of people
      -Develop a detailed plan for self-sufficiency

    If you and your leadership determine that your organization fits these basic funding criteria and you would like a pre-application information packet, please contact Carole Weber at the Office of Peace and Justice, (602) 285-1999. They will provide techincal assistance through the application process if you choose to apply for a CHD grant. In closing, they wish you continued success in working for the common good of all persons in our communities.

    Application Dates:

    November 1

      Postmark the pre-application by this date to the national CHD officer and the Office of Peace and Justice. (The national CHD office does not accept faxed applications.)

    January 31
      Full application deadline. Once your pre-application is processed, you will be notified of your eligibility to participate in the full application process.
