Adopt-a-School (Adopt-a-Garden)

Foster partnerships between businesses, service organizations, universities or community colleges, etc. Contact the local Chamber of Commerce to identify potential partners. Look to the parents of the children who garden for support from their businesses.

They are offering between 100 and 1000 seed packets on the basis of availability and relative need for volunteer efforts to grow food for the needy, elderly, handicapped and confined; for charitable plant sales; to beautify neighborhoods; to start new educational programs; and to show that growing plants can give people and communities new hope as they help to beautify and nourish America. These are seeds were packaged to sell last year and have germination rates of 85% to 90%.
To request a Free Seed Grant, simply request an application, then:

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's Partners for Fish and Wildlife program provides technical and financial assistance to private landowners with a desire to provide suitable habitat on their property for wildlife. Up to $10,000 available per project. Eligible projects: *Fencing streams and wetlands; *Planting native vegetation; *Educational signs and publications; *Creating wetland and riparian habitats; *Closing unauthorized roads and trails *Public environmental education.

Environmental Education Grants for Arizona Teachers
$50,000 in grants of up to $1,000 each are offered. The grants are open to educators for grades K-12 in schools located in the APS service area. The grants are designed to encourage students and teachers to pursue ideas and projects that link energy and environmental education to core subjects such as math, science, social studies, health and language arts.

Applications are short and concise and can be picked up at your local APS business office. You can also pick up an application at the Southwest Center for Education and the Natural Environment (SCENE) located at Arizona State University, 826 East Apache Blvd., Tempe, AZ (602) 965-4179, and the Northern Arizona Environmental Education Resources Center at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff (520) 523-1651.

Donations for groups servicing the most needy and neglected urban areas.

Federal funds which are given to the cities to use to meet local priorities and needs. $500 - $50,000 available for one program. Contact your local Mayor's office for information and application procedures. Involve the children in the process of securing funds. They can attend council meetings and write letters to successfully lobby for city block grant money for their gardening program.

Develop a budget and a specific wish list. Form a plan for raising the money including a list of potential donors, what you will request, who will do the asking, how donors will be recognized and involved in the project, and how you will express your appreciation.

300 youth gardens nation wide will each be awarded tools, seeds and garden products valued at $750. Applicants must plan to garden with at least 15 children between the ages of three and 18 years. National Science Teachers Association awards grants for innovative programs to improve science teaching.
Awards are for $750 or $1,000

Annual program to recognize and reward the volunteer work of young people (grades K-12) whose efforts benefit the Phoenix, AZ community. Winners will be recognized formally by the mayor and honored at an awards ceremony. Cash prizes ($500 each) will be awarded to group and individual volunteer efforts that show extraordinary commitment to making Phoenix a better place to live.
You don't have to be a Phoenix resident to qualify - but your project needs to have a direct impact on the Phoenix community. Examples of activities that qualify include helping the needy, cleaning up Phoenix neighborhoods or making them safer, enhancing your school environment or working to build community unity.
