Barbara:
Manzanita are lovely shrubs.  I have seen them in nurseries in the
Sedona area.  I wouldn't suggest digging one up.  Below is the address
and phone number of the Gila County Cooperative Extension as well as the
e-mail address of Chris Jones, who is an agent at that office.  I think
they could give you more information on the growing habits of the
manzanita and whether it could be taken to Spain without jeopardizing
the native plant population.
