I don't know of a pre-emergent herbicide that will last for 5 years. The 
pre-emergents that I have used will lose effectiveness after 20 days. Roundup 
is a post-emergent herbicide and does not contain any pre-emergent. 
    The product you are looking for is called a soil sterilent, but I cannot 
recommend the use of this kind of product in a residential area because it 
could remain in the soil for many years.
     Why not use a pre-emergent herbicide such as Surflan. S urflan when 
applied according to directions will in  about two years nearly eliminate 
your weeds. It must be applied both spring and fall to kill the seeds of both 
summer and winter weeds.
