    9. Students Earn TRIF Fellowships

    Nine students at the University of Arizona in Tucson have earned fellowship awards through the Technology and Research Initiative Fund (TRIF) for water research, outreach and education.

    TRIF is also known as Prop 301 funds from the sales tax initiative to fund education in
    the state, and is administered by the Board of Regents. The $100,000 allocation will fund four $20,000 graduate fellowships, and five $4,000 undergraduate fellowships, for outstanding students studying water resources.

    The graduate students (and their advisers) include:

    • David Brown, geography and regional development (Andrew Comrie)
    • Otakuy Conroy, chemical and environmental engineering (Robert Arnold)
    • Andrew Hinnell, hydrology and water resources (Ty Ferre)
    • Paula Renda dl Costa, agricultural and biosystems engineering (Gene Giacomelli)

    The undergraduates (and their advisers) include:

    • Stephanie Freeman, chemical and environmental engineering (James Field, Reyes Sierra)
    • Erin Gleeson, hydrology and water resources (Paul Brooks)
    • Arin Haverland, soil, water and environmental science (James Riley)
    • Michael Liga, agricultural and biosystems engineering (Donald Slack)
    • David Roncayolo, civil engineering and engineering mechanics (Juan Valdes)
