    May 23, 2001

The Arizona Agriculture "100" Council will honor Paul W. Brown with its Faculty Member of the Year Award. The award will be presented June 1 at the Agriculture "100" Council meeting in Casa Grande, Ariz.

Brown is an associate extension specialist in biometeorology who joined the University of Arizona faculty in 1985 after working as a senior research biologist for Monsanto Company for four years. Over the past 16 years, Brown has designed, developed and overseen the operation of the Arizona Meteorological Network, a near-real time agricultural weather information system.

As a member of the American Society of Agronomy and the American Meteorological Society, Brown has produced more than 150 journal articles, bulletins, reports, abstracts and publications.

He has been involved in cooperative applied research related to integrated pest management, irrigation scheduling and frost protection, emphasizing the use of weather data with appropriate weather-based models to generate information useful in farm management.

Brown has a bachelor's degree from the University of Missouri, and a masters and doctorate in soil science from the University of Wisconsin, where he also minored in meteorology.
