    7. CEAC Short Course 2005

    By controlling all the aspects of a growing environment, including temperature, air circulation, water and nutrients, growers can often better predict their harvest success.

    The 2005 Greenhouse Crop Production and Engineering Design Short Course, January 16 - 19, 2005 at the DoubleTree Hotel in Tucson will provide interested greenhouse growers with the tools they need to set up and maintain a controlled environment agriculture system. The shortcourse is designed for growers of all levels.

    Sponsored by the Controlled Environment Agriculture Program (CEAC), of the UA College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS), the shortcourse includes three days of plant science, engineering, and marketing presentations in an environment where laypeople and professionals in both industry and education can interact in an educational setting. An Exhibitor's Gallery will showcase the latest in products and tools for a controlled environment agriculture setting.

    • Learn to monitor and manage the greenhouse environment;
    • Separate fact from fiction about hydroponic tomato production;
    • Learn the "lingo" - PAR, EC, pH, IPM;
    • Understand how plants respond to environment and culture;
    • Gain understanding of environmental instrumentation;
    • Learn about Integrated Pest Management practices;
    • Hear strategies for marketing greenhouse crops;
    • Visit state-of-the-art tomato production greenhouses.
    • Meet leaders in the field of Controlled Environment Agriculture

    Registration includes 2½ days of classroom instruction, ½ day of greenhouse demos, Exhibitor’s Gallery, Short Course Proceedings, 3 breakfasts, 2 lunches, coffee breaks, welcome reception and a banquet dinner.
    Registration fees: $385.00 per person for registrations received by November 30, 2004 ($25.00 discount for Arizona residents); $485.00 for registrations received after November 30, 2004.
    Optional tour (registrants only) to commercial greenhouse is an additional $35.00 (includes box lunch). Register for tour by January 3rd, 2005 – limited seating available.

    An optional Spanish Language Translation will be provided on a limited availability basis.

    Lodging and transportation are not included in the registration fee. Transportation for the optional tour is included in tour fee.

    A block of rooms has been reserved at a discounted rate of $95 + tax per night at the Doubletree Hotel, Tucson at Reid Park, 445 South Alvernon, Tucson.
