    August 06, 2001

The Pima County Cooperative Extension Family and Consumer Sciences invites participants to its six-week Master Consumer Advisor Program. The program teaches consumer and nutrition know how.

Participants in turn are asked to provide 36 hours of volunteer services for the program, including taking phone calls and providing consumer expertise.

Participants will sharpen their telephone techniques and problem-solving skills with workshops beginning Wednesday, Sept. 12. The workshops will meet every Wednesday through Oct. 24 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. There is a break in the schedule on Oct. 3.

The 36 hours of training includes a training binder, information on financial and house management, food and nutrition, food safety, food substitutions, food preservation and demonstrations, food tasting and "hands-on" experience.

Besides taking phone calls, volunteer opportunities may include additional community outreach with Money 200 personal finance and Bone Builders osteoporosis prevention programs.
Class size is limited to 12.

A registration fee of $45 covers class materials, handouts, food and beverages. Registration closes on Friday, Sept. 7. For more information or to register, contact Linda Block or Joyce Prentice at 626-5161.
