School Enrichment Programs – Mohave County 4-H Youth Development

AG-IN-THE-CLASSROOM (SCHOOL GARDENING)

Mohave County School Gardening Program is funded by the University of Arizona, Mohave County Cooperative Extension Office and the Mohave County School Superintendent’s office, Mr. Michael File. We believe that School Gardening Program can integrate into any classroom and compliment subjects including science, math, language arts, social studies and art. The students learn planting and responsibility as they care for their gardens. Self-esteem and an appreciation for our land and nature can be enhanced as the students see their plants flourish. Nutrition can also improve as they try different produce fresh from their own garden.

We want to invite all Mohave County school teachers to join us for School Gardening Workshops offering throughout the academic year. There will be hands-on training on the basics of botany, horticulture, soil science, water conservation, and agricultural food science. All educators completing the workshops will earn credits for Continue Education Units (for your teaching certification), as approved by our County School Superintendent, Mr. Michael File. In addition, there will be hands-on participation on selected Ag-In-the-Classroom lesson plans. All workshop participants will also lean about volunteer recruitment, media contact, and fundraising strategies which will help enhance and sustain continue effort for their school gardening program.

We are limited to 30 participants, so please register soon, see PDF attachment below.
