[Arid_gardener] Loquats

Debra, I have a loquat tree loaded with fruit in my front yard. They are tasty but a little sour. I am leting them ripen more if I can keep the birds off them. Loquats I grew in San Diego years ago were quite sweet. I will let these stay n the tree as long as I dare. I have no idea what the problem is unless it is variety. I will eat them never the less if I get there first.

Is a taste test the best measure of loquat ripeness? I've read 90 days from flowering the fruit should be ready. Does that hold true here in Maricopa County?
