[Azyg] Western Growers $1,500 grant proposals due 10/1/04

The Western Growers Association is working to develop funding to put a
garden in every school in Arizona and California.
Quarterly they are making $1,000 and $1,500 grants to schools that apply
for support.
Next Application Due Date 10/1/04

The garden must have a food and nutrition component (vegetables, fruits, nuts)
Award Specifications
Each School Receives the following funding and materials:
· $1,000 or $1,500
· Drip-tape irrigation system (courtesy of T-Systems International)
· Seeds (courtesy of Harris Moran Seed Co.)
· Garden Curriculum, resource guide, composting guide and customized
stepping stone (courtesy of Western Growers)
· Ag in the Classroom Materials Courtesy of AITC
The Growing With Children Grants will be awarded to schools in California
and Arizona only
The Growing with Children Application will be available August 1, 2004

Special Note
Because each school has different requirements, there are a variety of
plans that may fit their needs. It must, however, fit into the guidelines
of the program, which are as follows:
· Funds must be used for supplies, curriculum, resources or other
materials related to starting or maintaining a garden. Examples include
tools, seeds and plants, soil, irrigation related items, materials for
raised beds, gloves, composting materials etc.
· A small portion of the funds may be used for a garden coordinator,
but not the entire cash award.
· Funds should not be spent strictly on butterfly or other ornamental
gardens.
