Introduction
The purpose of the Forage and Grain Report is to keep you up-to-date on
the research activities conducted by the University of Arizona's College
of Agriculture and Life Sciences in this area. Our mission is to support
the needs of Arizona agriculture and improve the quality of life for the
citizens of the state.
Forage and grain crops are very important to the agriculture of the
state of Arizona and have been for over a century. The demand for forages
continues to grow with the dairy and pleasure horse industries. The demand
for Desert Durum in export markets is strong, and some local demand for
the crop has been created by the recent opening of a new pasta plant in
the state. All indications are that forage and grain crops will continue
to be a vital part of Arizona agriculture in the future.
One of the goals of the University of Arizona's College of Agriculture
and Life Sciences is to strengthen Arizona's competitive position in the
production of agricultural commodities. The reports in this volume contain
information that can assist you and your industry in today's market.
