Editor: David N. Byrne Production Supervisor: Produced by Education Communication and Technologies Series P-152 Despite a downturn in recent prices, vegetable production remains the largest contributor to Arizona’s agricultural economy, exclusive of livestock production. We are hopeful that we as extension and research employees of the University of Arizona, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences have contributed in some way to this success by providing unbiased information on pest management and vegetable production practices. If you have any opinions that you feel would improve our efforts, please take the opportunity to contact any contributor to this report. If you feel you would like to directly address the University of Arizona’s Vegetable Advisory Committee, please contact me. We hold annual meetings in Yuma with individuals from the vegetable production community. This is an open forum where we discuss the direction of future efforts and ways in which we might refine our research. We have produced a vegetable report every year for over 20 years. It contains the results from our research conducted during 2007. This year we are providing information concerning plant pathogen and insect management practices, pesticide resistance, vegetable production practices, farm labor issues, and pest movement. We think this information will be useful. This report will also allow you to evaluate our research and suggest new directions. As always, we are committed to those of you directly involved in agricultural production. I am indebted to the other contributors to this report and look forward to their future participation, as well as those of others. Additionally, I would like to thank Colin Kaltenbach, Interim Dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, for his support of this report. Thank you, David N. Byrne - Professor, Entomology *Contributors are with the University of Arizona unless otherwise noted. |
