Ongoing Activities

Activities Team
Established an Activities Team that has sponsored a brown bag lectures series, numerous pot luck lunches, chili cookoffs, and spaghetti feeds to provide an opportunity for CALS staff to network.

Career Development
Established a training policy that allows each classified staff member a minimum of 16 hours training time and access to $50 annually from his/her department. Due to the implementation of a COA Staff Development Team (1996), the Career Development Team was disbanded.  The CALS Staff Development Team ceased activities in June of 2006, and turned over responsibilities to the Staff Council.

College Policies
The Staff Council evaluates and recommends modifications to existing and proposed CALS policies and procedures affecting classified staff.

Development Day
The CALS Staff Council with the CALS Development Team plans and facilitates an annual Staff Development Day for all staff within the college. This day provides an opportunity for employees to enhance career and personal development through lectures and workshops and also provides an opportunity for campus staff to interact with staff from all units including Cooperative Extension personnel who are based in every county in the state.

Employee Recognition
Developed a Quarterly Outstanding CALS Staff Award. Recipients are selected by the Staff Council and approved by the Executive Council; awardees receive $350 and a plaque.  Awardees names are placed on a plaque in the Forbes Building lobby.

Faculty/Staff Meeting
Designees from the Staff Council participate in planning the biannual CALS Faculty/Staff meeting.

Liaison Role
The Staff Council serves as a liaison between CALS staff members and CALS administrators.

New Faculty Tour
The Staff Council reviews applications from staff who wish to participate in the New Faculty Tour and makes recommendations to the Executive Council concerning staff participants. (The New Faculty Tour visits various agricultural enterprises located throughout Arizona during this annual three-day event.)

Staff Council Tour
The Staff Council has created a biannual tour for staff to become acquainted with various departments in the college. The tour runs from 9:00 a.m.- 3:00 p.m. and includes a luncheon with the dean and a tour of the Campbell Avenue Farm.

UA Staff Advisory Council
The Staff Council has developed a close working relationship with UA Staff Advisory Council (SAC), and members are encouraged to attend monthly meetings and other events.

United Staff Committee
Advised and guided the formation of many of the other University of Arizona College Staff Councils.
