Reporting Hours
Required Hours
Associate Master Gardeners (those who are in training and/or are not yet certified) must complete 50 volunteer hours by June 30th of the year following training, i.e. you have about 13 months to complete the 50 hours. No continuing education hours are needed during that time.
After certification, Master Gardeners must complete 25 hours of volunteer work and six hours of continuing education each fiscal year in order to maintain an "active" status. The fiscal year runs from July 1st to June 30th.
When to Report Hours
Volunteer and continuing education hours should be reported monthly. Hours are compiled monthly, around the 5th of the month. A spreadsheet of the recorded hours is posted in both the Cottonwood and Prescott Cooperative Extension Offices. A copy is also available at each Master Gardener Association meeting. Associate and certified Master Gardeners may contact the Volunteer Coordinator for questions regarding hours status.

FAQs
What qualifies as continuing education?
Any classes or seminars you attend that pertain to horticulture will qualify. The monthly Master Gardener Association meetings have a guest speaker, and that also qualifies as continuing education.
What if I can't complete the required number of hours each year?
If you can't complete the required number of hours, you should request a waiver from the Extension Director. Your waiver request should include a plan for how and when you will complete your hours. Details are in the Program Policy.
What happens if I don't complete the hours and don't request a waiver?
If you don't meet the hours criteria, and you do not have an approved waiver on file, then you will not have an "active" status, and you will not be voting member of the Master Gardener Association.
