Forb Plant Description

Origin: Native   Life Cycle: Perennial
General Desc: Weak-stemmed; stems slender, erect or ascending, straggling, sticky; branches form "wishbones". White to pale pink or purplish flowers are clustered at the end of stems.
Identification notes: 5-parted sepals about 1/2 inch long; whorl of united bracts below each flower, little changed in fruit; fruit not strongly 5-angled. Flowers usually white, sometimes pink or purplish or tinged with pink at base.
Height: 12 to 20 inches


Habitat

Habitat Description: Lower desert flats, rocky slopes and canyons, desert brush lands.
Plant Communities: Desert Scrub, Interior Chaparral, Semidesert Grasslands, Pinyon Juniper Woodland
Elevation: Below 3000 feet


Flower Characteristics

Color: White to pale pink to purplish     Shape: Regular in round clusters     Tubular: Y     Flowering Period: Mar - Oct
Description: Petals are fused into a tube, 1 inch across, darker pink color near the center, and have rounded, ruffled lobes and up-curved stamens. The flowers open in the evening.
