Soil Moisture

With the notable exception of Central Asia and China, the dry lands of the Earth are easily noticeable in the image below.

Such quasi-equilibrial stasis is not likely to prevail, however, particularly under global warming scenarios. At current emissions levels, doubled concentrations of carbon dioxide will be reached by the year 2030 or so. The resultant global warming will have impacts on the Earth's drylands.
