2007 Work Group Meeting and Priority-setting Workshop

September 24-25, Portland, OR

Purpose. The Work Group met for a face-to-face workshop to review funding opportunities, discuss the National Pest Management Strategic Plan for IPM in Schools, and to identify regional priorities to support school IPM implementation in the West. The workshop also included an update from the Southern School IPM Work Group, a tour of a Portland Public School District School and a discussion of their IPM program.

Identifications of Priority Goal and Regional Objectives

The work group is charged with developing a regional list of school IPM needs and priorities. To facilitate this, we conducted a small group exercises to develop priorities in 4 areas:

These priorities will be helpful to work group members and others in determining appropriate foci for research and education efforts around school IPM in West. Also, these priorities should be cited in research grant proposal, as they represent stakeholder school IPM needs in the West.

Day Two: September 25, 2007

The second day of the workshop involved a field trip to Ockley Green Middle School (Portland Public School District). The group was provided with an overview of the school district and the IPM Program, which is a joint effort between Portland Public School District). We conducted a mini-audit of the school, inspecting a number of pest vulnerable areas.
