Environmental & Natural Resource Policy

The overall goal of the AREC Environmental and Natural Resource Policy program is to produce research relevant to real-world issues related to the sustainable and efficient use of natural resources and the environment. In particular, economic theory and methods are used to examine the relationship between agricultural production and environmental protection and how policy and government programs can affect the decisions made by farmers, ranchers, natural resource managers, and policy makers. AREC's Environmental and Natural Resource Policy Extension program encompasses broad topical areas such as agricultural biotechnology, climate change, conservation, energy, outdoor recreation & tourism, pesticide use & regulation, public lands, the U.S.-Mexico Border environment, and water resources.
