A ED 301: Youth Leadership Development

Assignment: Book Review

Each student is expected to read two (2) books on leadership. Students will choose at least one of the following books and prepare a review of that reading. In addition, the student may choose a book from this list as a second book to read or obtain instructor approval on a second personal choice.

Cohen, W. A. (1990). The Art of the Leader.
Covey, S. R. (1990). Principle-Centered Leadership.
Phillips, D. T. (1993). Lincoln on Leadership.
Manske, F. A. (1990). Secrets of Effective Leadership.
Covey, Merrill, & Merrill, (1994). First Things First.
Bennis, W. (1989). On Becoming a Leader.

Each review is NOT to exceed four (4) double spaced, typed pages. The following format should be used when preparing the written review:

  1. Bibliographic Information

    1. Author
    2. Date Published
    3. Title
    4. Publisher
    5. City where printed
  2. Overview

    1. Summary of the main points
    2. Brief outline of the topics/issues addressed
  3. Critique

    1. Personal feeling about the book
    2. Strong Points
    3. Points that were not clear to you
    4. Usefulness to a leader
