A ED 301: Youth Leadership Development

Assignment: Position Paper

A position paper should be written to reflect an emerging philosophy with respect to the topic, "Developing Leadership Skills of Youth." The position should be explained based upon personal experience, readings from authoritative sources, class discussions and observations of the "real world" as viewed during the conduct of the course.

The paper should be typed, double spaced and completed in NO more than four (4) pages. It should include a list of references (bibliography). The paper should be based upon logic which supports the position (thesis statement). The incorporation of ideas, quotes, etc., which support the position taken are appropriate.

The paper should attempt to "pull it all together" with respect to the utilization of those competencies and topics discussed in class. It should be approached from the position of a paid adult professional or volunteer and should relate to such items as leadership style, purpose of the organization (mission statement, goals and objectives), organizational government, conduct of meetings, leadership development opportunities for members, and motivational theories used by leaders.
