TASK vs. RELATIONSIIIP

Is your professor or advisor Relationship~Oriented or Task-Oriented? Maybe you can tell by their office layout.

RELATIONSHIP-ORIENTED LAYOUT TASK-ORIENTED LAYOUT
The desk is placed against the wall. The Professor turns away from the desk to talk to visitors.
The desk is placed so the visitors are seated across a desk.
An informal conversation area is used. For example you may sit side by side at a coffee table.
The space for visitors consists of large, formal furniture.
All partipants in a conversation are seated at the same level
The Professor's chair elevates him or her to a physically higher level than that of others.
The office door is open.
The office door is closed and a secretary acts as a buffer
The office space is relatively small and the seats are is placed fairly close together.
The office space is large and furniture facing each other.
