BELL WORK

Start your students on a schedule by beginning the day with a quick assignment. These quick morning activities are called Bell Work. We encourage the use of Bell Work to start your day off right. While your students are working on the Bell Work you have posted, you can get "housekeeping items" completed for the day.  In addition, they have have a received a signal that says "It's time to begin class."

Rules for Bell Work

  1. Keep it simple. You should not have to write more than a simple instruction on the board to have the students get busy.
  2. Use review as Bell Work.  As a question about the previous day's lesson.
  3. Keep alternative types of bell work handy.  The routine is as important as the subject matter.
  4. Use bell work as a way to include more basic academics in the day's lesson.
Idea
  1. Keep a ticket out sheet for the entire week, so students only turn in one item.
