Assassin bugs (Family Reduviidae) play an important role in biological control. This beneficial feed on a wide variety of insects including caterpillars, whiteflies, lacewing, aphids. A very common genus found in our area is Zelus. Please see Assassin Bugs Top the Food Web (Brown, Vandervoet, Ellsworth and Naranjo). The next video shows the eclosion of a Zelus egg mass. This was a five hour video taken by Dr. Ta-I Huang at the Yuma Ag. Center which was reduced to about 3.5 min.
