Norton School Council of Alumni & Friends Wins The University of Arizona Alumni Association Red and Blue Award - 2017
Over the past year, the John and Doris Norton School of Family and Consumer Sciences Council of Alumni and Friends continued its long history of exemplary support. While some longtime members of the council have passed the baton to a new generation of leaders, the group remains a dedicated source of advocacy and support for the school and its students.
The council engages in regular communication with alumni and friends of the school, provides scholarships to students and leads and participates in numerous events including welcome events and award ceremonies. Last year, the council added an ice cream social to welcome the faculty and staff of the Department of Agricultural Resources and Economics to their shared building. They also hosted a fund drive in honor of Dr. Amy Jean Knorr’s 100th birthday, which raised nearly $15,000 for the Frances McClelland Institute.
During the last year, the council provided ten $1,000 scholarships as well as one $1,500 scholarship. Recipients are invited and encouraged to attend the Homecoming luncheon that connects students with accomplished alumni by having them sit with and introduce alumni receiving awards.
The UA College Alumni Council Red and Blue Award recognizes the alumni council or college advisory board that has provided the most distinguished service to its college and the University during the previous academic year. In recognition of its service, the UA Alumni Association and the John and Doris Norton School of Family and Consumer Sciences are pleased to honor the Family and Consumer Sciences Council of Alumni and Friends with the Red and Blue Award.
